What Docpipe's AI does with your content, and the limits it respects.
Docpipe's AI features — asking your docs, search, writing and research, and capture — are powered by OpenAI. This page explains what that means for your content.
How your content is used
- Answering and writing. When you ask a question or use an AI writing tool, the relevant documents and your prompt are sent to OpenAI's API to generate a response. The response comes back with the sources it drew on, so you can check it.
- Embeddings. So search and answers can find the right documents, Docpipe converts your document text into numeric embeddings using OpenAI. These embeddings are stored in your organization's database alongside your documents.
The limits it respects
- Scoped to your organization. AI only ever draws on your organization's documents. Your content is never used to answer another organization's questions, and theirs is never used to answer yours.
- Access-aware. The AI respects the same access controls as the rest of Docpipe — it works within your knowledge base, and it never turns a document someone can't reach into an answer they shouldn't see.
- Read, then propose. AI-proposed changes — from capture, ticket and PR reviews, or the assistant — are never applied silently. A person reviews and approves them. See How proposals work.
You're in control
- The editor's AI writing tools are a Pro feature — on the Free plan they're off entirely. See Plans & usage.
- Which external content feeds your knowledge base is up to your admins, through the integrations they connect.
For quality monitoring and product analytics, Docpipe may record how AI features are used — which can include the text of prompts and responses. If that matters for your team's data, review the Docpipe Privacy Policy or contact the team before relying on AI for sensitive content.
